Tulips are one of the world’s most easily recognized and loved flowers. These flowers have hundreds of varieties and they come in different colours and shapes. Tulips always inspire every gardener’s creativity. You can plant these beautiful flowers in groups of 10s or 100s or even 1000s and yet they will always put up an impressive show.

How & Where Tulips Originated

Tulips have played a very significant role in the art and culture of Persia and Turkey, where they originated. The word tulip comes from the Persian word which means turban. In the early days, Europeans used to wear turbans with tulips in them and thus gave this name to the flower.

The popularity of tulips spread quickly, especially in the Netherlands, where a phenomenon known as tulip mania set in trend during the 17th century. The craze for these beautiful flowers sent their prices soaring and markets crashing. However, now these flowers are grown worldwide but the most famous ones and cultivated varieties are the Dutch Tulips.

10. Jardin du Luxembourg

Area: 57 acre

Covering a vast area of 57 acre, Jardin du Luxembourg has some of the most beautiful tulips in Paris. The vast display of these flowers has some very amazing colours! Locally known as Luco, this garden is very close to the famous Notre-Dame and the Latin Quarters.

These gardens were created on the order of Marie de Medicis in 1612. These gardens have found a mention in French Literature several times. Even the famous play Les Miserables has a mention of this garden in it.

Covered with colourful flowers, the Four Seasons Garden at Everland has an area of 38 acre. This garden has a wide variety of flowers like the tulips, daffodils and hyacinths. There are also various sculptures built throughout the garden.

Located in South Korea, the Everland garden possesses a huge 26-metre-tall magic tower, which is a perfect spot for all Instagrammers. Besides, this garden hosts the biggest tulip festival that lasts for 44 days, at the beginning of spring from March 16 to April 28.

Spring time in Japan is always mesmerizing and the Tonami Tulip Park, covering an area of 30 acre, hosts some of the most beautiful tulips in the world. 7. Corbett Gardens

Area: 40 acre

Covering a vast expanse of 40 acres, the Corbett Gardens are located in Bowral in Australia. Each year, this park hosts the Tulip Time Festival and during this time, there are over 75,000 tulips of different colours on display. This festival attracts over 40,000 people each year.

The Corbett Gardens in Australia date way back to 1911. In that year, a local tourist association purchased this Deadmans Paddock for a public park at the suggestion of Mrs Ada Corbett.

These Gardens are located right in the heart of the town and have a very beautiful collection of flowers, especially during the Springtime.

6. Emirgan Park

To give your eyes the much-needed relaxation, head to the Istanbul Tulip Festival which takes place at the Emirgan Park. This park has some of the choicest and most expansive display of tulips.

Thousands of gardeners plant million of tulips all around the city – in parks, city’s avenues and major traffic roundabouts. When these flowers are in full bloom, just passing by them will not be enough as they call out to you with their immense beauty and you will be lured to touch them!

5. Jinzhan Tulip Garden

Area: 61 acre

The Jinzhan Tulip Garden is located in China’s Chaoyang District and covers an area of 61 acres. This is a very unique garden as it has been divided into three sections – production, display and the service section. All these sections can be witnessed by people to know how each process takes place.

With thousands of tulips on display here, this garden also has two huge greenhouses and boasts of European-style architecture.

With a very soothing Dutch atmosphere, tourists here enjoy their time to the fullest as the park has many delicious fruits which can be bought at minimal prices. Besides, with a lake nearby, visitors can peacefully enjoy a view of the tulips from the boats.

4. Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip Garden

Location: Srinagar
Area: 74 acre

The Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip Garden is located in Srinagar (Jammu and Kashmir) and covers an area of 74 acres. This garden is situated on the foothills of Zabarwan Range and gives a beautiful view of the Dal Lake.

Initially known as Model Floriculture Center, this garden was opened in 2007 with an aim to give a boost to the economy of Kashmir valley through floriculture and tourism. The Tulip festival here is held between March-May, when the spring is in full bloom.

When the flowers are in their full glory, it gives the effect of a rainbow! However, due to unpredictable weather in the valley, the time of the festival here varies. This garden was inaugurated by former Chief Minister Gulam Nabi Azad. The Dal Lake, Nishat Bagh, and Chashma Shahi Garden surround this gorgeous garden on three sides.

3. Keukenhof

Location: Holland
Area: 79 acre

Hosting an incredible collection of tulips, daffodils, orchids, roses, carnations and lilies among many other flowers, the Keukenhof garden is located in Holland. This garden covers an area of 79 acres and is popularly known as the Garden of Europe.

These gardens are open for tourists from March till May. Each year, over 7 million bulbs of flowers are planted here and by the time spring arrives, these bulbs bloom into 800 different varieties of tulips. Taking a walk around this vast array of beautifully and neatly-arranged flowers, you will be amazed by the spectacle of flowers and the mesmerizing perfumes!

2. Skagit Valley

Location: North America
Area: 350 acre

Covering a whopping 350 acres, the Skagit Valley is located in Washington state, USA. The Tulip Festival here takes place every year for a month in April.

Despite having a huge area, the Skagit Valley does not feature on number one in the list because all of its huge area is not dedicated solely to tulips. Different varieties of many other flowers are also grown in a huge part of this park.

The valley is just about an hour from Seattle and is designed as a driving tour. Instead of going to one particular location to witness the flowers, you can drive by the fields which are located between La Conner and Mount Vernon. Several events and activities are also organised throughout these routes to give a very exciting effect to the main event.

1. Munsiyari Tulip Garden

Location: Munsiyari, India
Area: 123 acre

Covering a massive area of 123 acres, the Munsiyari tulip garden is the biggest tulip garden in the world. This beautiful hill station is located at an altitude of 2298 metres above sea level and is also referred to as the little Kashmir of Pithoragarh.

Uttarakhand chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat posted on his Twitter account incredibly beautiful photos of a picturesque tulip garden located in the state’s Munsiyari village. 

The Panchachuli ranges provide the tulip garden with a majestic backdrop. In fact, it is set to be one of the largest tulip gardens in the world, rivaling those in the West.

This park was envisioned by Dr Vinay Bhargav, Divisional Forest Officer, Pithoragarh. With a view to educate students about ecology and nature, the Munsiyari Nature Education and Eco Park Center, has also been opened.
