The term Monster, as frightening as it sounds, is also referred to as a thing that is unusually large in size. Monster trucks are, therefore, large trucks with heavy-duty suspension, four-wheel steering, and oversized tires that are owned by teams and piloted by professional drivers in competitive shows.

The Monster trucks offer dazzling experience for viewers irrespective of their age. Today, Monster trucks are designed with fiberglass body but earlier, they used to be built with steel, which caused them to weigh more than 16,500 pounds.

With the advancement of technology, the design has changed with the introduction of over-sized, nitrogen filled shock absorbers in the suspension systems which have allowed these beasts from simply crushing old cars and jumping as high as 30 feet in the air above them.

Having custom-built, methanol injected, supercharged engine up to scratch of 1800 horsepower, these Monster trucks have the capability of reaching speed of about 80 mph.

10. Avenger

The year 1997 saw the advent of a new powerful monster truck which no one had ever seen, ” Avenger”, it was originally created as a modified truck on Chevrolet S-10 body. To handle its extreme power and violent nature Jim Koehler was given the charge to become the perfect “Avenger” driver. The body of this monster truck was modified in 2002 to become a 57 Bel-Air. With this Monster truck, Jim has been into every Monster Jam Final.

Jim always thanks his fans to make “Avenger”, a “Fan Favorite”, which in turn got his dream come true, i.e, to go into the Monster Jam World Finals, adding to this Jim and Avengers also won 2 Monster Jam World Finals Freestyle Championship (2003, 2011).

9. El Toro Loco (The Crazy Bull)

El Toro Loco (translated from Spanish as “The Crazy Bull”) is a monster truck presently racing in the Monster Jam series. It is currently driven by Armando Castro Elvis Lainez, Mark List, Scott Buetow and Marc Mcdonald. Some of the other
drivers are Aaron Basl, Nathan Weenk Dan Rodoni , Joey Parnell, Ryan Huffaker and Chris Baker.

It has a 3D body which is first in class, two horns sticking from its head, which gives it a realistic bull look. This body was originally designed for Bulldozer, and was found a second use for El Toro Loco. El Toro Loco, had drastically increased in popularity and has become the primary monster truck in this body style.

El Toro Loco, is widely popular for exhaling smoke from its nose, like a bull, and this feature can be toggled by a button inside the truck.

8. Gas Monkey Garage

A garage named Gas Monkey Garage was made famous on Discovery Channel’s hit television show Fast n Loud. This garage introduced the Monster Jam Truck in 2016 which had the engine of 540 ci Merlin. The body of this monster truck was designed by Richard Rawlings, the owner of Gas Monkey Garage himself.

Based out of Dallas, this show on Discovery channel showed Richard as an expert who buys, restores and sells classic rods and cars. Richard also created a one-of-a-kind 80s muscle car body for the monster truck jam and the unique and minute artwork that he has done shows the spirit of his garage.

7. Grave Digger

Founded by Dennis Anderson, the Grave Digger monster truck took part in the Field Entertainment Monster Jam series. This truck is considered to be one of the most famous monster trucks and forms the team of other nine grave digger trucks that are driven by different drivers. The owner of this monster trucks is of the opinion that every one of his monster trucks appears in all the monster jam events that take place.

The Grave Digger has an engine of 540 cubic inch Merlin 1450hp. It was originally built in 1982 by David as a mud digger and there are a total of 41 grave diggers monster trucks built. However, currently only seven of them are competing.

6. Lucas Oil Crusader

This amazing monster truck made its debut on January 8, 2011 during the monster jam held at Reliant Stadium. The Lucas Oil Crusader has a sword-bearing knight on its side and its strong body remains prepared for battle at any time.

The Crusader monster truck is always on the look-out to defeat its enemies and be the winner of the monster jams every single time! This incredible monster truck qualified for the monster jam world finals right in its debut season. The Crusader made it to the semifinals but lost the finals to the world champion Max-D.

5. Max D/ Maximum Destruction

The Maximum Destruction monster truck made its debut in 2000 as Goldberg and later in 2003, this truck was renamed as Max-D by his owner Tom Meents. The Max-D has an engine of 540 CID Merlin and is considered one of the most popular monster trucks of the Monster Jam Circuit.

This monster truck received recognition for its bouncy and wild rides and for its ability to take huge jumps and several freestyle runs without suffering any major damages during its debut period as Goldberg. People also started to like this mammoth truck for the numerous crashes, which were often a result of the full-throttle driving of Meents.

Meent had decided to rename the truck from Golberg to Max D a year before it was renamed in 2003, but decided to postpone the plan as a mark of respect towards the 9/11 attacks.

In 2012, this monster truck entered the world of monster jams and made its debut in Alabama. The Monster Energy monster truck is a high-profile machine that became very popular right from the very beginning.

Monster Energy won its first major stadium freestyle competition on January 14, 2012, at the Alamodome in San Antonio. The very next day, this monster truck again won the racing trophy! Always a contender in racing and freestyle, the monster energy monster truck made a very good impression at the Monster Jam World Finals XIII, in Las Vegas.

3. Overkill Evolution

Overkill Evolution is a Ford Monster truck built in late 2013 and debuted on January 4, 2014 at the BOK Center in Tulsa, OK. Owned by Marty Garza, it is currently driven by Mikey Vaters since 2014.

Interestingly, the truck has competed in every single World Finals from 2014-2018, even winning the Young Guns Shootout Championship in 2014 and the World’s Finals Freestyle Championship in 2015.
